According to a survey conducted by the industrial association AIM-D, members of the AutoID/AIDC industry are optimistic about the future for the first half of 2023. Despite global crises and challenges, nearly 80% of the surveyed companies reported improved or consistent business development. This indicates that the industry is well positioned to tackle upcoming challenges such as automation, autonomous processes, digitalization, and IoT/IIoT.

Stable economic situation for AutoID companies remains unchanged

The economic situation of AutoID companies has remained stable compared to the previous half-year. Approximately 30% of companies have increased their investments, while about 55% have maintained their investment behavior. Only around 10% have invested less. The overall market development in the AutoID sector is considered better or unchanged by around 80% of the surveyed companies.

Positive market development for barcode and optical identification systems

According to a recent survey, 20% of companies in the AutoID industry have reported a positive market development for barcode and other optical identification systems. Additionally, over 35% of companies have stated that the market development in this area has remained unchanged. Barcode technology, along with two-dimensional codes such as Datamatrix and QR codes, as well as OCR, play a crucial role in the AutoID industry.

Stable development of RFID, NFC, and RTLS technologies expected

The development of RFID, NFC, and RTLS is considered to be stable. Approximately 30% of companies anticipate a more positive development, while 50% expect a consistently stable development. These technologies are responsive to the advancements in Industry 4.0, the digitization of logistics, and the Internet of Things (IoT) and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).

Strong Demand Expected for Optical Identification and RFID Technologies

According to the survey, companies in the AutoID industry have high expectations for increased demand in various technology areas. Optical identification, labeling, and RFID are identified as the top priorities, followed by NFC, RTLS, sensor technology, Bluetooth, and vision systems. This indicates a strong belief in the potential of these technologies to drive future growth and innovation in the industry.
