TPA S.r.L is a highly skilled supplier located in Brendola near Vicenza, Italy. They specialize in the production of heat exchangers and other custom components for refrigeration and heating technology. With a focus on small to medium-sized production runs, TPA places a strong emphasis on quality and aesthetics. To remain competitive, the company recognized the need to increase productivity and enhance flexibility.
The integration of automated laser welding into their production portfolio was a strategic decision for TPA S.r.L to increase productivity and flexibility. In collaboration with laser specialist L-Peak, they developed a robotic cell capable of operating in two independent cells. This allows for simultaneous welding in one cell while preparing the next workpiece in the other, resulting in maximum productivity and minimal setup times.

The Stäubli TX2-160L, a six-axis robot with a long reach, was chosen for the robotic cell. Its additional linear axis allows it to weld in two separate cells, resulting in a unique layout that provides high flexibility and short lead times. The programming of the robot and turntables is straightforward and can be done directly on the workpiece, enabling quick adaptation to different tasks.
The collaboration between TPA, L-Peak, and Stäubli during the installation and commissioning of the robotic cell was seamless. The system has proven to meet expectations and is highly efficient since its inception. TPA is pleased with the robot’s performance and is already planning further enhancements and additions to make the system even more efficient and flexible.
Overall, the integration of automated laser welding with TPA and L-Peak’s robotic cell has brought numerous advantages. The manufacturing process has become faster, resulting in increased productivity. The welds produced are cleaner and more consistent, ensuring high-quality results. Additionally, the absence of deformation in the workpieces, even with long welds, showcases the precision and effectiveness of this technology. The collaboration between TPA, L-Peak, and Stäubli demonstrates how innovative technologies and superior components can revolutionize the manufacturing industry.
