The Frankfurt-based energy service provider Süwag has been awarded the contract to supply a portion of the VEA Active Power Pool for the year 2026. This pool, which includes small and medium-sized businesses, was acquired last year for the 2025 delivery year and is gaining popularity. The VEA optimizes energy procurement for medium-sized companies and has increased the number of companies in the pool from 639 to 652. Additionally, 16 percent of pool customers have chosen renewable energy for the 2026 delivery year. The collaboration with the VEA enables companies to be reliably supplied with energy and gain access to innovative procurement models.
Süwag’s daily procurement model: Smoothing prices in volatile markets
The Süwag utilizes a daily procurement model, which has proven effective especially in volatile markets. Instead of meeting the energy demand on a specific date, Süwag secures a portion based on wholesale prices from the Leipziger Energiebörse European Energy Exchange (EEX) on each trading day. This approach smooths out price spikes and incorporates price lows into the procurement process. As a result, customers benefit from stable prices and a streamlined transaction process.
The VEA and Süwag collaborate to provide consulting services to medium-sized businesses, focusing on topics such as electricity tax refunds and the Energy Efficiency Act. Through digital customer events, businesses gain access to a wide range of services beyond energy procurement, including assistance with navigating complex regulations and optimizing energy usage.
The Bundesverband der Energie-Abnehmer e.V. (VEA) is a key advocate for more than 4,700 energy-intensive small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), representing their energy-related interests in Germany. With a dedicated team of over 140 professionals, the VEA serves as the SME energy expert, providing comprehensive energy consulting services. The VEA’s goal for the coming years is to significantly expand the quantity and quality of its consulting services, aiming to support more businesses in their journey towards achieving carbon neutrality at their production sites in Germany.
Overall, the collaboration between VEA and Süwag provides small and medium-sized businesses with the opportunity to hedge against price risks and benefit from a reliable and optimized energy supply. Through innovative procurement models and extensive consulting services, they support companies on their journey towards carbon neutrality.
